International Space University Visits Gazprom Space Systems

On the 3rd of March 2015 the professors and students from International Space University (ISU) located in Strasbourg (France) visited Gazprom Space Systems Telecommunication Center in Shchelkovo.

On the 3rd of March 2015 the professors and students from International Space University (ISU) located in Strasbourg (France) visited Gazprom Space Systems Telecommunication Center in Shchelkovo.

The delegation consisted of students from 17 countries around the world and professors with the French astronaut Jean-Jacques Favier among them.

The visitors became acquaint with GSS activities on developing and operating the Satellite Systems.

Dmitriy Sevastiyanov, Director General of Gazprom Space Systems, told about the company’s experience in large space projects implementation. Students were interested to learn about GSS position in the Russian satellite telecommunications, the company’s international activities and efficiency criterion and risks of satellite operator business.

ISU representatives visited Yamal Mission Control Center and viewed the infrastructure supporting Satellite Telecommunications and Geoinformation Services provision.

International Space University (ISU) was established in 1987 at the initiative of several space agencies (NASA, NASDA, ESA) and the USSR Ministry of Higher and Secondary Education. The main University’s idea was formulated as 3I (International, Interdisciplinary, Intercultural), i.e. “free knowledge and information exchange between professionals and potential professionals for complex understanding of Space Exploration problems”.

In 1994 the University Central Campus in Strasbourg with MSS and MSM Master Programs (Master of Space Studies and Master of Space Management) was found. During the study students broaden their knowledge of European aerospace companies’ activities. This year students visited Global Satellite operator SES in Luxemburg, Airbus Defense and Space in Friedrichshafen, and The European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, Germany.
